2023 KCSP Tobacco Control Conference

Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) participated in the annual Kentucky Tobacco Control Conference. This event was held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Central Bank Center in Lexington, KY. This was the first in-person Kentucky Tobacco Control Conference since 2019. Attendees were able to stop by BH WELL's table to discuss the importance of tobacco policy and tobacco treatment within mental and behavioral health organizations. 

Nursing and Social Work Research Showcase and Self-Care Bash at ESH

The Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) research team hosted the Eastern State Hospital (ESH) Self-Care and Work Learning Program (WLP) Student Spotlight Event in the lobby of Eastern State Hospital on April 11, 2023 from 3pm to 8pm. Staff members were invited to stop by and participate in a gratitude challenge, learn about WLP student research, take photos with the Bailey Bee family (BH WELL’s mascot), view video blogs, take home a giveaway item, and even enter in a drawing for a full bag of BH WELL goodies.

Annual CCTS Conference: Translating Equity into Action

Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) presented at the 2023 Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Spring Conference on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Gatton Student Center in Lexington, KY.  BH WELL shared the following presentations: General Factors that Reduce Cardiovascular Risk in People with Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review.  Authors: Al-kayed, J, Moser, D., Okoli, C.T.C.

RECHARGE with POWER

The Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) research team participated in RECHARGE with POWER hosted by The Prevention, Outreach, and Wellness Educational Resources unit. The event took place on March 1, 2023 from 3pm-5pm at the Gatton Student Center Social Staircase. Previously known as Spring Break Bash, RECHARGE with POWER launched as a rebranded Spring event to share wellbeing resources with students. In collaboration with Aramark, POWER provided free food and t-shirts for all students that complete the Wellbeing passport upon check-in.

Lewis Honors Self-Care + Gardening Event

The Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) research team hosted the Lewis Honors Self-Care and Gardening event in the University of Kentucky Lewis Honors College Lobby on February 1, 2023 from 3:00PM-4:30PM. Students participated in planting and coloring activity stations, had their photo made with Bailey H. Bee (BH WELL’s mascot), and spoke with BH WELL team members about the benefits of self-care, mental and behavioral health research, and psychiatric nursing. 

Comic Evaluation with Prize Drawings- Life Feels Heavy: Lighten The Load

Read the Comic  BH WELL conducted a comic book evaluation with prize drawings! Anyone who helped us evaluate this comic book was eligible to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of six $20 Amazon gift cards. The evaluation was open from February 8, 2023 to April 8, 2023.

Behavioral Health Coloring and Self-Care Event

The Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) research team hosted a Behavioral Health Coloring and Self-Care event on January 25th from 11:00AM- 1:00PM in the Dizney Building at Eastern Kentucky University. This drop-by event was informal, fun, and free! Attendees were invited to choose a behavioral health coloring book (or two) and spend a few moments coloring. The books focus on the importance of self-care and the eight dimensions of wellness.  

LexCount

Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) partnered with LexEnd Homelessness and Eastern State Hospital for LexCount! LexCount was a night where the Lex End Homelessness Continuum of Care (CoC) used teams of volunteers to visit dozens of outdoor locations where persons experiencing unsheltered homelessness might be found overnight.
