Mental Health Awareness Panhellenic Event

BH WELL faculty member, Dr. Lee Anne Walmsley, spoke to 60 students involved in sorority life at UK. She discussed mental health awareness and the importance of self-care. Students made blankets and took the "gratitude challenge" as a self-care activity. The "gratitude challenge" involves students writing what they are grateful for and why. This could be family, friends, pets, good weather, opportunities, etc. Evidence shows that the "why" of this activity is the key.

Sigma's 46th Biennial Convention

Ohoud Alosais and Dr. Zim Okoli presented at Sigma's 46th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, IN November 2021. Sigma is an international community of nurses, dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, teaching, learning, and service through the cultivation of communities of practice, education, and research.

APNA 35th Annual Conference

BH WELL participated in the American Psychiatric Nurses Association's (APNA) 35th Annual Conference held virtually October 13-16, 2021. Approximately 1,200 people were in attendance. UK Curiosity Fair

BH WELL participated in UK's Curiosity Fair on October 12, 2021 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM​ EST in the Gatton Student Center Ballroom. The BH WELL table had about 60 visitors who were offered a chance to practice gratitude, grab some goodies, and take the “BH WELL” challenge. Whether it’s during a pandemic, prepping for an exam, or just walking through life, we all deserve to BH WELL! 

Undergraduate Research + Creative Experience Expo

Along with UK College of Nursing, BH WELL will be represented at the Undergraduate Research + Creative Experience Expo on September 13. This expo is designed to introduce scholars to the diversity of research and staff as well as to learn about opportunities for conducting mentored research and creative inquiry. BH WELL will spotlight our current Comic Book Evaluation study as well as provide an overview of BH WELL’s research interests. The goals of the Undergraduate Research + Creative Experience Expo include:

Spring 2021 Graduate Celebration

UK CON Nursing Student Scholarship Showcase

Amani Kappi, BH WELL graduate research assistant, will present at UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science's Spring Research Day 2021 on April 8th at the Nursing Student Scholarship Showcase Event. Her presentation is a systematic review titled, "Parental Barriers in Seeking Mental Health Services for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children."

Northern Kentucky Behavioral Health Planning Meeting

As part of their KY TPCP CDC Behavioral Health Grant funding, Northern Kentucky Health Department supported a Northern Kentucky ASAP Policy and Advocacy Tobacco Group Training and Planning session on March 9, 2021 from 12-1:30 EST. In attendance were Karie Terhark and Angie Asa-Lovstad from HueLife  (Human Understanding and Engagement), Zim Okoli and Heather Robertson from BH WELL, and from the coalition: Breanna Williams, Lauri Gum, Tom Spicer, Kacie Dermon, Melissa Loyd, MJ Schneider, Camille Croweak, Elizabeth Valett, Amanda Changet, Julian Collins, Linda Bates, and Tyler Mullins.
