SURE Conference

The annual Substance Use Research Event (SURE), showcases translational research conducted at the University of Kentucky focusing on substance use and substance use disorder. It is free and open to all members of UK and the greater Lexington community who are interested in the field.

2024 KCSP Tobacco Control Conference

The 2024 KY Tobacco Control Conference will take place from April 23rd - 24th at Embassy Suites Lexington/Coldstream in Lexington, Kentucky. The conference is hosted by the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy (KCSP) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program. Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) will participate in the conference and host a table where attendees can stop by and learn more about the importance of tobacco policy and tobacco treatment within mental and behavioral health organizations.

2024 CCTS Spring Conference

Experience the 19th Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Annual Spring Conference on April 9, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Central Bank Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Dive into the theme "Dissemination and Implementation across the Translational Spectrum" alongside a diverse gathering of researchers, clinicians, students, and community members who are ready to foster collaboration and share research findings! 

Horticultural Therapy's Impact on Mental Health

Join Madelyn Strong-Cline, RN BSN, a DNP student in Psych/Mental Health nursing at the University of Kentucky, as she presents "Horticultural Therapy, Impacts on Mental Health" at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Donovan Forum event series! Madelyn will be discussing therapeutic benefits of horticultural therapy and how gardening as a holistic practice can positively influence mental well-being.

Random Acts of Kindness Event

In February BH WELL proudly celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week on February 11th - 17th, 2024 by distributing seeds of joy and positivity to students across campus! For this BH WELL Random Acts of Kindness event, we distributed wildflower seeds to serve as a reminder that one small act of kindness can change and blossom a new lens of positivity. As we continue into March, let's carry the spirit of generosity and watch the seeds of kindness flourish in the days ahead. 

Random Acts of Kindness Giveaway

From February 11th to February 17th, BH WELL celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week by doing a self-care giveaway for students! Random Acts of Kindness Week helps us to remember that one small act of kindness can change someone's day and inspire a new lens of positivity.   To reflect on Random Acts of Kindness Week, we are sharing the photos of the giveaway winners with their self-care totes and goodies.

LexCount

Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) is partnering with Lex End Homelessness and Eastern State Hospital to conduct the 2024 LexCount. LexCount is part of an annual nationwide census dedicated to counting all individuals currently experiencing both sheltered and unsheltered homelessness.

Bondurant Middle School Kentucky Teen Advocacy Health Fair

The Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BHWELL) research team was invited to Bondurant Middle School for their Kentucky Teen Advocacy Health Fair on January 9, 2024. The health fair featured an interactive showcase for the 8th grade Health Science students’ research projects. Health professionals were invited to attend to expose the students to real-world health initiatives in a dynamic way. BH WELL provided prizes and health education materials that were shared at the event. 

33rd Annual Nursing Research Papers Day

On November 10, 2023, BH WELL attended the 33rd Annual Nursing Research Papers Day which was held at The Campbell House in Lexington, KY. During the event, BH WELL hosted a table and provided information about our research, programs, and resources.    

Integrating Tobacco and Nicotine Treatment into Substance Use Disorder Recovery

On Wednesday, November 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (EST), BH WELL hosted the workshop, Integrating Tobacco and Nicotine Treatment into Substance Use Disorder Recovery, via Zoom. The workshop was FREE and we have approval to provide 3.5 CEs for nursing through the Kentucky Board of Nursing and for social work through the Kentucky Board of Social Work for attendees. The target audience for this workshop was tobacco treatment specialists, health educators, and other health professionals. Recordings from the workshop are posted on the page below.
