Eastern State Hospital's (ESH) inaugural Research And Practice Initiatives Day (RAPID) was held on April 25, 2018. The event, titled "Teamwork in Recovery: Collaboration Across Disciplines," was created as part of an academic-clinical partnership between the UK College of Nursing (CON), UK HealthCare, and Eastern State Hospital. The intent of the partnership is to advance education, enhance staff development, support research, and improve patient outcomes.

Two research open house sessions showcased projects that demonstrated critical thinking, applied information, process improvements, and improved patient impacts and outcomes. With this being the first event of its kind, the partnership was pleased to have standing room only with a total of 86 attendees.

Carrie Rudzik, ESH Chief Administrative Officer and Dean Janie Heath, UK CON, welcomed our guests. Cassie Brown, ESH Research Council Chair-Elect served as emcee for the day. Details of the day’s speakers can be found in the agenda. Highlights of the day were keynote presentations from Dr. Seth Himelhoch and Dr. David Susman. The ESH Research Award was presented to Dr. Chizimuzo Okoli for his research presentation entitled Predictors of Intentions to Deliver and Engage in Tobacco Treatment at Eastern State Hospital.
