Partner Spotlight: Eastern State Hospital/Central Kentucky Recovery Center’s Magnet Status
Eastern State Hospital/Central Kentucky Recovery Center (ESH/CKRC) holds Magnet designation. This is the first time ESH/CKRC has received this honor. ESH is also the first state psychiatric facility in the country to receive this honor. ESH is managed by UK HealthCare who received Magnet re-designation at the same time. Magnet status is a prestigious designation awarded to hospitals by American Nurses Credentialing Center, an affiliate of the American Nurses Association.
The credential is a sign of nursing excellence and requires that facilities uphold distinctive criteria using evidence for patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. These criteria indicate the strength and quality of the nursing services. Only about 10% of all hospitals in the United States have been awarded Magnet status. The Magnet designation runs for a period of 4 years, after which institutions can reapply to uphold the honor.

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) research team enjoys a hands-on, robust partnership with ESH/CKRC, a campus that includes an acute psychiatric hospital and a center that supports individuals living with mental illness who are transitioning to the community.
