At BH WELL, we are proud to spotlight one of our undergraduate research interns, Shane Landis, as he graduates from UK with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Shane has been an invaluable part of our research team, and we are excited to celebrate his achievements and the bright future ahead of him.

Shane chose to pursue nursing because of the unique opportunities it offers to work in a collaborative, team-based environment while forming meaningful one-on-one connections with patients. “It is incredibly rewarding getting to work with patients who come from so many different backgrounds and have so many different stories to tell,” he shared.

During his time at UK, Shane deepened his passion for teamwork and continued striving to find more efficient and impactful ways to collaborate in healthcare settings. This passion was clearly reflected in his work with BH WELL, where he contributed to several key research projects, including Telehealth, Long-Acting Injectables (LAI), and Peer Support Specialist initiatives.

Of all the projects, Shane found the LAI project particularly meaningful. “It was my first opportunity to really be exposed to the world of research and understand just how much our findings can contribute to the healthcare setting,” he said.

BH WELL Executive Director, Dr. Zim Okoli, shares “Shane is such an endearing young man who is going to make a difference in the nursing world. His thoughtfulness, keen interest, impressive listening skills, and effective communication are traits that will make important contributions to exceptional patient care and improvements in the healthcare setting. We are truly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to observing his career development in nursing.”

To Shane, being part of the BH WELL team has meant more than gaining research experience—it has been about working toward meaningful change. “It meant getting the opportunity to be a part of meaningful nursing research that will actively contribute to advancements in patient care and the healthcare setting,” he said. “And I got to learn and work alongside so many incredibly passionate individuals.”

Shane has accepted a nursing position in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CV ICU) at UK Chandler Hospital.

Congratulations, Shane!
