The University of Kentucky’s Behavioral Health Wellness Environments for Living and Learning (BH WELL) has announced the inaugural winners of two behavioral health tobacco treatment awards. The awards were presented on November 9, 2022, at  BH WELL’s workshop, Recovery in Mental and Behavioral Health: Tackling the Hidden Epidemic of Tobacco Use. The awards recognize achievement in the tobacco treatment field and contributions to addressing tobacco related disparities for those living with mental or behavioral health challenges.

The 2022 BH WELL Behavioral Health Tobacco Treatment Integration Award honors an organization that has demonstrated continued success in the tobacco treatment field and has made significant contributions in addressing tobacco related disparities for those living with mental or behavioral health challenges. The recipient of this award is  NorthKey Community Care. NorthKey Community Care is a tobacco-free organization that serves the 8-county Northern Kentucky Region. NorthKey’s commitment to addressing tobacco related disparities in the population it serves is evidenced by the way in which it has prioritized tobacco dependence treatment and ensured it provides tobacco-free spaces for its employees and clients.

The 2022 BH WELL Behavioral Health Tobacco Treatment Specialist Trailblazer Award honors a Tobacco Treatment Specialist who is a champion for tobacco treatment prioritization within their organization and who is making significant contributions in treating tobacco dependence for those who are living with mental or behavioral health challenges. The recipient of this award is Holly Logsdon, a Tobacco Treatment Specialist at Owensboro Health in Owensboro, Kentucky. Holly advocates for her patients and works diligently to help them achieve their goal of stopping tobacco use.

BH WELL’s mission is to promote behavioral health wellness among individuals living with behavioral health challenges. We offer a variety of free trainings and educational resources for both mental and behavioral health professionals and those they serve. Our work is supported in part through funding from the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program.
